The brief from the owners was to create inviting spaces with a garden oasis that provided a sense of calm on arrival. In response, Secret Garden House is focussed inward, turning away from the inner-city surrounds, with north-facing garden forming a buffer prior to entering the house. Approaching the property from the street, there is little sense of the vast garden behind the separate studio & garage. However once the front gate is opened, the eye is drawn through to the light and greenery between the built forms, & moving along the forecourt, the space opens out revealing the extent of the garden & front of the house; Internally, the family spaces take full advantage of the beautiful garden views, and highlight glazing draws sunlight deep into the building.
